At Eureka Elementary, the staff wanted to teach students about kindness. They came up with the idea of doing it through a Spirit Week, where every day students were asked to be kind. 

“The purpose of Kindness Week is to recognize that simple day-to-day acts of kindness enable our schools, communities, and state to be a kinder, safer, healthier and more inclusive place to live, work, learn and play,” said Brenda Haskins. She works as a computer lab director at the school. “There were many students who participated.” 

The spirit days included “Dress Like a Superhero” Day on Monday, where they focused on kindness being a superpower. Then on Tuesday, it was crazy hair or sock day. On Wednesday, students were encouraged to wear red or pink, as kindness makes the heart grow. On Thursday, it was Tie Dye day, focusing on peace, love and kindness. Finally on Friday, it was School Pride Day, where everyone was asked to “be kind like a Eureka Eagle.”
