Corporal George Carl Simpson

On Saturday, July 31, Corporal George Carl Simpson of Drakes Branch, peacefully made his transition. He was born on April 28, 1933 to the late James E. and Bertha Simpson. George will be remembered by his family and friends as a “Lawyer of Guidance”, kind and quiet man with a beautiful smile that made all feel welcomed at his home and a lover of hunting, baseball and football.

George leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Edith, of 62 years of the home; daughters, Audrey Simpson of Norfolk and Kimberly Simpson Warren and husband, Markkey Warren of Drakes Branch; granddaughter, Britteny Warren; four great grandchildren, Ijayah, Aeryk, Bryanna and Demira; devoted brother, James Simpson and sister, Ephenia Pippen; two sisters-in-law, Lenora Gilmore and Charlotte Gregory; brother-in-law, Louis Gilmore; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Devoted caregivers, Nannie Jones, Cora Roberts, Damon Ashe and Acree Wilson.

George was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Lynne; sisters, Mazie Washington, Rosetta Canada, Alice Canada, Martha Johnson and Louise Brown and brothers, Norman and Essic Simpson.

Funeral services were held 12 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at the St. Michael Baptist Church, Drakes Branch. Interment, with Military Rites, in Mossingford Baptist Church Cemetery, Saxe.
