Slow internet, or the lack of an internet connection have been ongoing issues in the county and for the Town of Drakes Branch.
On Monday, Aug. 5, the Drakes Branch Town Council voted unanimously to allow high speed internet provider Shentel to place equipment on the towns water tank.
On July 30 the town received a letter, from Barbara Burba, CEO/Owner of Amerisite Wireless Development of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, requesting on behalf of highspeed internet provider Shentel, “to collocate telecommunications equipment on your water tank.” The letter went on to say, “Shentel is proposing $400 per month to install on your tower.”
According to Burba, equipment would include antennas on the water tank which would be less than 10 feet tall. Depending on the companies finding during a site visit they will attach to an existing corral or place the antennas on top of the water tank. Additional equipment would be place on the ground beside or near the water tank in a fenced in enclosure.
The company is targeting for a 2020 build.
